In December 2001, UNESCO elevated the Alto Douro Wine Region to Heritage. A title awarded unanimously that rewarded the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, ordered by the Marquês de Pombal in 1756. Unique region by bringing together the virtues of shale soil and its privileged sun exposure with the unique characteristics of your microclimate along with the hard work of man Douro.
Its landscape highlights three main aspects: the uniqueness of the territory, the natural relationship of wine culture with olive and almond trees and diversity of local architecture. Besides these aspects, the application highlighted the remarkable work done by man to build walls that extend the shale slopes and above all, authenticity and integrity of the cultural landscape..This entry was posted in Travel & Tours.
